Possible causes

• The applique design can let its surface deform or dimple if the retaining nuts are overtightened; damage to the applique mounting bosses may be evident if the studs were overtightened.

Repair

1. For 2011 or earlier vehicles, replace the liftgate center applique with the appropriate new service part, referring to Liftgate Center Applique Replacement in SI.

2. To create clearance at the lower edge, add GM washer P/N 15911310 between the foam washer and the mounting boss at each of the four mounting stud locations.
