Work done
How it is said to have ended
- says it was fixed1
- says it held for a while1
- says it came back1
- says it did not fix it7
- result not stated5
A ribbon is as wide as the records that state both of its ends (only the commonest are drawn). A record that names several symptoms or components runs through each. Orange is records that say the fault came back or was not fixed. Results come from owners’ reports only; one that does not say is “result not stated”. None of this is a likelihood of a cause or a rate at which work succeeds.

BCM or SDM Replacement: B1001 DTC Clearing Procedure
1Fault
- The SIR lamp stays on steady after an SDM or BCM has been replaced, with DTC B1001 current in the SDM.
2Finding the cause
Possible causes
- When the ignition is first turned to RUN, the SDM compares the restraints ID stored in the SDM to the restraints ID stored in the body control module (BCM).
- B1001 sets if the restraints ID in the SDM does not match the one in the BCM, or the VIN information in the SDM does not match the VIN information stored in the PCM/VCM.

EVAP System Leak Diagnosis for MIL with DTCs P0442/P0455
1Fault
- The MIL is illuminated and DTC P0442 (EVAP small leak detected) and/or P0455 (EVAP large leak detected) is set in the Engine Control Module (ECM).
2Finding the cause
Possible causes
- DTC P0455 sets for a large leak or a purge blockage; a large leak can come from an unseated tube connection, a damaged tube, a stuck open canister vent valve or a stuck closed purge valve.
- DTC P0442 sets for a small leak, which can come from a stuck open purge valve or a stuck open canister vent valve.
Steps to confirm (in the document’s order)
- Inspect all purge connections for proper installation and look for damage or wear along the lines; if damage is seen, confirm with the smoke test.
- Some leaks show only under pressure and some only under vacuum, so check both ways.
- Cycling the purge and vent solenoids with GDS2 while inspecting may indicate a sticking valve.
- Critical connections on the engine side: purge tube to purge valve at the intake manifold, purge tube to chassis EVAP line at the rear of the engine near the transmission, and chassis EVAP line to canister.
- Critical connections on the tank side: fuel tank load line to canister, vent valve line to vent valve, fuel tank load line jumper connection near the fuel tank, and the fuel tank cap being closed properly.

- Remedy
- This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that are travelling from Canada to the United States. While in the United States they are unable to receive Turn-by-Turn directions. Due to the existing cellular provider not having roaming agreements in areas outside of Canada to support transmitting of the packet data required for Turn-By-Turn feature to operate. The customer has 3 options while traveling through the United Sates. First if the vehicle is equipped with a navigation radio they can request a "Destination Download" to the vehicle. Second if the customer uses the OnStar RemoteLink app they can send the directions to the vehicle. The third option would be to have the vehicle loaded with a ?500 phone number? The customer will no longer be able to use their Hands Free Calling minutes when the new 500 phone number is loaded. If a customer chooses to restore Hands Free Calling in the future a new phone number will be assigned to the vehicle; previous phone numbers are not available.
