  1. Owner complaint2000 GMC YUKON DENALI ・ 2005-11-15

Extended stopping distance during low-speed ABS activation

    2. 2Finding the cause

CONSEQUENCE OF CONDITION: WHEN THE PEAK-TO-PEAK WHEEL SPEED SENSOR VOLTAGE LEVEL RECEIVED AT THE ABS CONTROLLER IS BELOW THE MINIMUM SPECIFIED PEAK-TO-PEAK LEVEL, THE ABS CONTROLLER INTERPRETS THIS AS A WHEEL SPEED THAT IS LESS THAN THE ACTUAL WHEEL SPEED.

What the documents say to do

Unwanted ABS activation at low speed (front wheel speed sensor mounting corrosion)

      Confirm

      • The reading should be at least 350 mV AC; if it is less, the wheel speed sensor must be replaced.

      Repair

      1. Dealers remove the sensor, clean its mounting surface on the bearing, apply rust inhibitor and grease, reinstall it and check peak-to-peak output voltage.
      2. The passage heading states that the repair is cleaning the wheel speed sensor mounting surface.

      Caution

      • Do not pry the sensor out of the bore; prying breaks the sensor body off in the bore.
