Record by record
41 records state a cause or a remedy. Each record is shown as short labels in the order fault → finding the cause → correction. Press a label to narrow to the records that state it.

Work done
How it is said to have ended
- says it came back2
- says it did not fix it5
- result not stated7
A ribbon is as wide as the records that state both of its ends (only the commonest are drawn). A record that names several symptoms or components runs through each. Orange is records that say the fault came back or was not fixed. Results come from owners’ reports only; one that does not say is “result not stated”. None of this is a likelihood of a cause or a rate at which work succeeds.

Crankshaft Position Sensor Failure Recall
1Fault
- The crankshaft position sensor can fail intermittently or permanently; if it fails intermittently, the Service Engine Soon (SES) light may illuminate and the vehicle may run rough.
- The engine may also stall and may re-start immediately or after a cool down period; if the sensor fails permanently, the engine will quit running and will not re-start.
- If this happens while the vehicle is moving, a crash could result without prior warning.
2Finding the cause
Possible causes
- Variations in the crankshaft position sensor manufacturing process caused an elevated rate of intermittent or inoperative sensors.
3Correction
Repair
- Replace the engine crankshaft position sensor following the appropriate SI service procedure.
- The repair listed for the claim is: replace the crankshaft position sensor and perform the Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn.
Parts
- Part: 12575172 Sensor, Crankshaft Position, quantity 1 per vehicle.

- Cause
- ON CERTAIN PICKUP TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH AN 8.1L V8 ENGINE, THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION CAN OPERATE INTERMITTENTLY OR FAIL COMPLETELY. IF THE SENSOR OPERATES INTERMITTENTLY, THE SES LIGHT MAY ILLUMINATE AND THE VEHICLE MAY RUN ROUGH. THE ENGINE MAY STALL, AND IF SO, MAY RE-START IMMEDIATELY OR AFTER A COOL DOWN PERIOD.
- Remedy
- DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON DECEMBER 18, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CHEVROLET AT 1-800-630-2438 AND GMC AT 1-866-996-9463.
- Consequence
- IF THE SENSOR BECOMES COMPLETELY INOPERATIVE, THE ENGINE WILL QUIT RUNNING AND WILL NOT RE-START. EITHER OF THESE FAILURES CAN INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH.

1Fault
2Finding the cause
3Correction
Not stated
What the documents say to do
Engine fuel rail crossover tube retainer screws may break (5.3L RPO L59) - recall 04V-376Confirm
- Check for leaks: ignition ON with the engine OFF for 2 seconds, ignition OFF for 10 seconds, ignition ON with the engine OFF, then visually inspect for fuel leaks.
Repair
- Dealers inspect the fuel rail crossover tube and replace the retainer screws if necessary.
- Hold the fuel crossover tube retainer to the bracket on the fuel rail with locking pliers, using enough force to keep the retainer from moving without damaging any parts.
Caution
- The GM bulletin lists Tahoe and Yukon models because Canadian vehicles are included in the bulletin.
Read the sentences of the record
- Cause
- On certain vehicles, the fuel rail crossover tube retainer screws were not manufactured to specifications and may break. If a tube retainer screw breaks, fuel could leak from the fuel rail crossover joint, the engine may stall and, if an ignition source were present, an engine compartment fire could occur. Correction: Dealers will inspect the fuel rail crossover tube assembly and, if necessary, replace the two tube retainer screws.

- Remedy
- This Preliminary information communicates the use of Winter grade fuel during the warm months of 2020 and the potential rivability issues that it can cause. The ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has caused significant reductions in driving and fuel use. Due to the surplus of winter grade fuel sitting in storage (pipelines/stations) the EPA is waiving the fuel vapor requirement. This will extend the use of winter fuel into the summer months. The drivability concerns should not be single events but should be multiple occurrences associated with hot days.
