Air bag (SIR) lamp on with DTC B1001 after BCM or SDM replacement

GMC Yukon Models 2000 - 2006 (and Escalade, Avalanche, Silverado Classic, Suburban, Tahoe, Sierra Classic); except export vehicles RPO EXP

The SIR lamp stays on steady after an SDM or BCM has been replaced, with DTC B1001 current in the SDM.

The SDM compares the restraints ID stored in the SDM to the restraints ID stored in the BCM.

B1001 sets if the restraints ID in the SDM does not match the one in the BCM, or the VIN information in the SDM does not match the VIN information stored in the PCM/VCM.

What to do

  1. A replaced SDM or BCM must learn the restraints ID.
  2. On some vehicles a calibration may need to be selected after choosing "Vehicle Theft Deterrent - Learn"; select the one labeled "Vehicle Theft Deterrent for Passlock sensor".
  3. A replaced SDM or BCM must learn the restraints ID, which requires performing a 10 minute V.T.D. "Vehicle Theft Deterrent - Learn" with the Tech 2.

Caution

  • A 30 minute theft relearn will not allow the SDM or BCM to learn the restraints ID.

Applies to

  • The bulletin lists GMC Yukon Models 2000 - 2006.
