Record by record

21 records state a cause or a remedy. Each record is shown as short labels in the order fault → finding the cause → correction. Press a label to narrow to the records that state it.

A ribbon is as wide as the records that state both of its ends (only the commonest are drawn). A record that names several symptoms or components runs through each. Orange is records that say the fault came back or was not fixed. Results come from owners’ reports only; one that does not say is “result not stated”. None of this is a likelihood of a cause or a rate at which work succeeds.

Rear Window Defroster Contact or Tabs Service Information

    1. 1Fault

    2. 2Finding the cause

      Not stated

    3. 3Correction

      Repair

      1. On 2007-2014 Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon and Escalade with moveable glass always replace the defroster tab (GM P/N 25916031) and the power connector (P/N 12034110); on all other vehicles reconnect the original defroster tab.
      2. Remove the rear defroster power connector and crimp a new one to the feed wire; the proper connector, P/N 12034110, is in the Packard Electrical Assortment, Tray 18, Position 5.
      3. Prepare the surface of the used defroster tab and the defroster buss bar with fine grain (500 grit) sandpaper or Emery cloth.
      4. Wipe the prepared contact area with Kent Automotive Acrysol (or equivalent) to remove residual oil or dirt.
      5. Heat the new connector on the buss bar surface to be soldered, holding the connector and defroster tab in place with long nose pliers.

Part numbers printed in the document

The numbers are as the document prints them. The name and the replacing number are what the pages of GMPartsGiant, a reseller of genuine parts and not GM, state. Parts

      • Silver solder: Radio Shack (The Source in Canada) 64-013, 0.022" diameter.
      • Solvent: P20005 Kent Automotive Acrysol Solvent (32 fl oz) 946 ml.

      Caution

      • Let the glass warm to the temperature inside the building; soldering creates a hot spot in the glass, so do not solder on cold glass.
      • Heating the glass excessively, or repeatedly without time to cool, may break the glass.
      • A silver-bearing solder must be used; do not attempt the repair with conventional tin/lead alloy solders.
